28th of August – installing an update and recovering 7gb of disk space is pretty different.

# re: Snow leopard release date announced

I've been running the latest beta & GM. It's noticeably faster than Leopard in day to day tasks (booting up, connecting to networks, using Finder etc). I'm impressed that pretty much every major OS X release has generally run faster than the previous version (although not necessarily using less resources).

They've made significant under the hood changes that will provide a good platform for future versions of OS X (64bit, OpenCL, Cocoa Finder etc), but not a whole lot that's visibly apparent to the average user. A pretty ballsy move I thought, that helps with a long term roadmap but provides very limited short term profits (at $29 a copy).

I'd love to have seen some more improvements to the GUI, as it's starting to feel a little stale, mainly because I'm bored with it. :-P Hopefully the next release will have some nice surprises that make people go "oooooh".
