Social Networking Sucks

Damien Katz says social networking sucks, and I'm inclined to agree with him. I've had so many invites to some of these things, the earliest I can remember was sixdegrees.com which was about 98-99 or thereabouts. The concept is good, but the execution is flawed. There's just so many of these stupid sites, that if you truly wanted to connect with all your friends then you'd need to be a member of all of them. Stupid.

My other reason for not being too fond of them is that I've heard a few nasty rumors about a couple of them using their membershiplists for targetted spam - if that's not true (and it might not be), then their memberlists would still make a nice target for any cracker looking to make an intrusion with some payoff.
