The Friday roundup of all things random.
Aliens vs Predator is nowhere near as bad as all the movie hype sites made it out to be. Clearly there's some weird alterior motive crap going on there. Anyhow, if you're a fan of either Aliens or Predator then you'll probably get something out of the movie - it's definately nothing amazing though (one of the worst bits being a 2 minute "QUICK, LETS EXPLAIN THE ENTIRE PLOT FOR THE STUPID PEOPLE" flashback that occurs midway through. I honestly hoped for some cool strange plot twist involving Lance Henriksens character, given that he was the founder of the main corporation in all the Aliens movies, but that never came.
The iPod mini is still very cool, although am I so old fashioned for wanting devices to have an 'off' button? I swear the battery sometimes drops when it's sitting about doing nothing.
Sonic attended an IBM seminar thing earlier this week and saw some advance demos of Notes R7 and R8, if I ask him nicely enough he might write something about it to put online.
There's a new album out by Helmet, called "Size Matters". It features none of the original members apart from Paige, but yet it manages to sound exactly like a Helmet album! On the subject of music, the new Lamb of God is awesome.
This little game is quite an interesting experiement in reflexes and adaptability. It's interesting to imagine that this must be how awkward it feels for someone when they first learn to use a mouse. It also reminds me of back when I was trying to finish the StarWars arcade game - the one where you have 2 little interlude levels, the first where you need to block Boba Fett's blaster shots with your lightsaber, and the second where you duel Darth Vader. The game used to pop up an arrow to say where they'd be hitting from, but you needed to move the stick in the opposite direction to block. I ended up writing myself a dirty QuickBasic program to display the arrows so I could sit in front of my laptop and learn to react with an opposite movement when I saw the arrows. Sad but true - and after spending a few mins in front of the laptop I went to the arcade and fucking finished that game. Yeah dude.
Web.archive.org is funny, if you want to check out some of the original google hardware (back when it was a 'Project' and nothing more), then check out this article.
That's a fairly random selection now, isn't it.
