6.5.1

Browse the Fixlist database, and see 481 fixes in 6.5.1 - thats a fairly high amount, although not as high as some previous releases (6.0.1 - 593, 5.0.3 - 720, 6.0.3 - 649, and so on!). However, when browsing the release notes, there's about 2 new features, which are pretty uninspiring.

I was originally going to upgrade my development server from 6.0 (eek) to 6.5.1 as well, but the install program seems to suggest that the footprint is going to be circa 600mb, which is a little too much for my poor laptops little C: to handle at the moment.

The installation program is less than impressive - it requires you to enter a path where the files are to be saved - it then extracts those files, and runs the install from there. There is no separate option just to extract the files, nor does it give you the option to remove those files after setup. If you mistakenly think that the original prompt for a directory is supposed to be your actual Notes or Domino installation location, and correct the default option (which is C:\Program Files\Lotus Notes 6) then you'll end up having the useless setup files dispersed between your installation, taking up an additional 200mb. Maybe I'm being picky, but it would have been pretty easy to clarifiy some of this stuff and add a couple more options for extraction. On my laptop which has ample space on D: and about 300mb free on C: I couldn't even perform the extract - even though I specified D: as the destination location, it told me there was not enough space free on C: to proceed. I needed to run the install on another machine, abort the install after the extract, and then copy/paste the extracted installation files to my laptop and run them from there. There really isn't much of an excuse for crap like this these days..

Roll on R7 I guess, but now, off to upgrade my client..
