This little pre-release comparison has ended up being a rather popular article, in terms of both page reads and comments posted (even those most of those are actually from those trying to seek a copy of the MP3 player for the 6600).
It's getting to the point where I'm about to make a decision between the two - it's not as easy as one might think, even though both phones have been available in this country for quite some time now, they haven't been officially released through Vodafone NZ yet. Why? Well, there are a few features that aren't currently working until they upgrade their gateways, and as that's going to cost them a fair amount of cash, they don't seem too keen to do it. One of the features is GPRS - that's a fairly big feature, and one that a lot of the people selling on sites like trademe, or through the parallel importing means fail to mention at all.
However just in time, the comments of GIGO bring up a few points regarding the 6600 that might be enough to put me off, or at least delay me until the 6620. His comments are in the original article, but the main 2 points to note are:
The car kits for these models lack charging capabilities, and external ariels. To me (and others it seems!) these are 2 of the more useful features of a car kit!
The MP3 playback for the 6600 is in mono (this is addressed in the 6620).
Anyhow, the purchase is on hold for now. The old trusty 8310 is hanging in there, and hopefully will last until the next couple of generations come out. In a year or so I suspect the next versions of the Nokia Communicator (yes I know the last one, the 9210i was still quite huge, but it has potential damnit! I mean you could run Doom on it a couple of years ago, so imagine what you can run on it in another year!), the P900 (Will they call it the P1000?), and the Nokia 6600 will be well worth checking out.. the question is, if I can wait that long..
